On Supporting Small and Diverse Businesses
A recent article from The Source, a monthly HealthTrust® publication, highlights the importance of diversity in business— specifically when it comes to suppliers for larger healthcare entities.
HealthTrust has a nationally recognized supplier diversity program that has grown from a 23.4-million-dollar venture to a whopping 320-million-dollar program that supports over 150 contracts! Their thought process behind this can be summed up by an excellent quote from Joey Dickson, assistant Vice-president of Supplier Diversity: “Supplier diversity gives healthcare entities a way to show that they’re supportive and representative of the communities in which they’re located.”
As a small business that is minority and woman-owned, we find it exciting to see larger healthcare systems noticing the value of small businesses and finding ways to support them. They note in the article that smaller businesses tend to focus more on customer service over marketing (and we agree). We believe that customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance and strive to make sure our customers are 100% satisfied.
The article also highlights the charitable work of The Phoenix Textile Corporation who helped in funding and building a house for Habitat for Humanity, which is just one of their charitable acts. Our team understands the importance of giving back and uplifting our community so each year we give to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont. This program works to enrich and empower the lives of children in the community through mentorship and data shows that their program positively affects children’s academics with 77% of youth improving in one subject and 59% improving in 2 or more! We believe their work benefits the community at large and you can support that cause as well here.
We also participate in the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce GROW campaign which seeks to enrich Greensboro by focusing on small business and entrepreneurship. They have a wealth of programs each with a unique perspective on improving the overall community. You can check out their programs here.
At OEM Exchange we believe that diversity in business (and in all things) leads to diversity in thought and ideas. Innovation begins with diversity and communication which means that small and diverse businesses are at the forefront. We also believe that representing and uplifting your community is very rewarding.
